Okra Tamarind Curry - South Indian Recipe.

Lady finger/Okra Tamarind Curry

This is a famous recipe in south India.

Okra - 250 gms. sliced.
Sessame seed oil - 3 tsp.
1 medium onion - chopped.
1 small tomato or half of Medium tomato - chopped.
1 tsp - tamarind paste.
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
salt for taste and curry leaves for garnishing.


1. Fry okra with 1 tsp of oil. Fry them until the sticky, gluey texture leaves. Do not cover and cook.
2. Remove okra from the pan, and 2 tsp of oil to the same pan.
3. Add curry leaves to the hot oil and add onions and tomatoes.
4. When the onions and tomatoes are half cooked, add chili powder, coriander and turmeric powder.
5. Cover and cook until the tomatoes are soft.
6. When the tomatoes are all cooked, add the fried okra to this curry.
7. Cook for another 3-4 min.
8. Add the tamarind paste to the curry.
9. Cover and cook for another 3 min on medium heat.
10. Remove from heat and serve hot with rice and dal.
